Well dang. I set out with the great idea to research one of my favorite vintage textile designers and have come up empty handed. Catherine Ogust is a myterious lady. I have been drawn to the beautiful shirt dresses made from her fabrics for years, but never knew anything about the artist. I'm sad to say my search for information has fallen flat...I wanted to share everything I learned with you, but I guess the the quest for Ogust continues! In the mean time let's drool together!
I love prints! I know, I know, you've heard it from me a million times, but I can't get enough. Walking down the street with a work of art draped around your shoulders just feels so darn good! I love these shirt dress for oh, so many reasons. The mandarin collar and knot buttons give it the "I work in an art gallery" look that we all love, and the bold prints say "look at me, but don't stare". Catherine Ogust's lovely patterns make these simple 100% cotton dresses something special, maybe that's why the company named them The Forever Dress. Penthouse Gallery, Inc. produced dresses like these in solid colors as long ago as the 1950's, but they did not become the Catherine Ogust Forever dress until the 1980's. I can picture my Mother wearing one of these beauties walking into a design appointment with a pixie cut and espadrilles circa 1985 right now. CLASS ACT!
A Catherine Ogust "Forever" dress is worn best with a strong bang and a red lip. A classic look that will never go out of style. We almost always have a couple of her designs to choose from, so swing by and check them out!
