New Adventures

For those of you who may not know, I have had the ultimate pleasure of working at Street Scene for about five and half of the six and half years we've been open. I had the extreme luck of knowing one of the girls who helped open the store and it was only after her persuasion did I land my gig. And Rachel Farrar, I could not be more indebted to you for that!

In my time at Street Scene, what started as a favorite hobby had turned into my passion and hopeful career path: styling. My favorite things to do are taking vintage items and creating modern and unique ensembles (as evidenced by my posts here, here, here, here and here). Fashion is so cyclical that it is unwise and short-sighted to not know the history and origins of trends that are big today. Without knowing iconic designers and their achievements like Yves St. Laurent's "Le Smoking" or Elsa Schiaparelli and her (and Dali's) lobster, you couldn't possibly understand the context of modern fashion. A show like Louis Vuitton's Fall 2010 is breathtaking and beautiful but pays a direct homage to Christian Dior's "New Look." From Marimekko and her poppies to Calvin Klein and his sleek minimalism - every past design and designer informs current designers and their choices. That's why I find vintage so pivotal and so exciting for a modern wardrobe. It's so easy to see the high fashion items and translate them with vintage pieces because that's what they were inspired by!

I say all of this because as a burgeoning stylist, vintage is a huge part of my cognitive process when choosing outfits. In order to document some of my own personal style and editorial photoshoots that are in the works, I've started my own blog called Face With A View. I've teamed up with photographer extraordinaire, Kate Sands and together we hope we provide even the smallest amount of inspiration to elevate and help push your style to new limits. It's a labor of love (with a very healthy dose of vintage) and I couldn't be more thankful to Kathryne and Terri (the head honchos here) for helping push me in this path and allowing me to practice on every mannequin in the store. The blog is in its third week and I'd just like to share a few of my favorite photos so far...

Don't fret, though! I'm still at Street Scene and still blogging here, as well, so as long as you all aren't sick of them, I'll keep posting styled outfits using all sorts of vintage goodies at Street Scene. We're also hoping to start a sort of "Style Night" where customers can bring in an item they need help styling or just general help utilizing vintage in their wardrobe and we would be on hand to help one-on-one. Is that something you all would be interested in? Let us know in the comments!

You can follow me and Face With a View on Pinterest, Instagram (lanhammm) and Bloglovin' to stay updated.
You can follow Kate Sands on Instagram (katesandsphoto) and Pinterest.

And of course, you can follow Street Scene on Pinterest, Instagram (StreetSceneVintage) and Facebook!

Thank you again to everyone who has and continues to support me in this venture! I could not be more excited!

Until next week!
